Sustainability
Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre is a pioneer in sustainability, aiming to be 100% carbon neutral by 2030. It has an ISO 14001 environmental certificate since 2009 and participates in an energy efficiency agreement to reduce consumption by 10% from 2024 levels by 2035. The venue utilizes solar electricity (533 MWh/year), geothermal heating, district cooling, heat recovery, and motion-sensor controlled LED lighting. It has halved water consumption, reduced heat consumption by a fifth, and electricity consumption by 15% within a decade. The center recycles 99% of its waste, calculates its carbon footprint, and is a climate partner of the City of Helsinki, committed to the Glasgow Climate Declaration. Social responsibility includes valuing a diverse workforce, offering volunteer workdays for staff, and cooperating with UNICEF.
