About this Venue
The Cairns Convention Centre is an award-winning, internationally recognised venue located on the shores of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by the Wet Tropics Rainforest, the only place where two World-Heritage listed areas meet. It offers flexible, contemporary spaces including plenary options, exhibition areas, and a range of naturally lit meeting rooms. The Centre underwent a $176 million refurbishment and expansion, completed in 2023, adding 10,500 sqm of flexible meeting, banquet, and exhibition space. It is designed to host conferences for up to 2,500 delegates, with a total event space of 45,000 sqm. The venue is known for its strong sustainability credentials, including EarthCheck certification, and state-of-the-art AV facilities. It has been awarded the AIPC's World's Best Congress Centre twice (2004 and 2014).

Sustainability
The Cairns Convention Centre is EarthCheck certified and committed to sustainable business events, operating responsibly between the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest. Its sustainability approach includes a passive design strategy utilizing ambient energy sources, a 130-meter-long external screen façade optimized for sun angles, rainwater harvesting (200,000-litre storage), efficient low-flow fittings, E-Water for chemical-free sterilization, onsite recycling (26,000 L of grease trap waste converted to compost in 2024/25), and the use of locally sourced and sustainable materials like reclaimed Weipa timber, Chillagoe marble, and Ontera carpets. Landscaping supports biodiversity with at least 50% native plant species. The Centre also partners with the Reforest program for carbon offsetting through local tree planting.
