Sustainability
The InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort is deeply committed to sustainability, focusing on reducing its environmental impact and protecting marine ecosystems. Key initiatives include being free from single-use plastics, producing and bottling water in reusable glass bottles on-site, and using refillable pump dispensers for bathroom amenities. The resort has implemented a glass crushing system to minimize glass waste for use in concrete work and monitors food waste. It utilizes 1,577 solar panels covering 2,594 sqm, producing 952,620 kWh, which accounts for 15% of the resort's total energy requirement and reduces 900 tons of CO2 annually. Water is conserved and reused through an Ultrafiltration and Reticulation Plant System with a production capacity of 155,000 liters per day for irrigation, staff accommodation, and cooling towers. The resort partners with the Manta Trust and Ocean Group for marine conservation, supporting the Maldivian Manta Ray Project, nurturing a manta ray sanctuary in its lagoon, and offering guest education and participation in activities like tracking mantas and coral replanting. It also supports sea turtle monitoring programs and organizes beach clean-ups. The resort follows the IHG Green Engage system and collaborates with Parley Maldives to reduce plastic waste.
