Sustainability
The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is LEED Gold Certified. Its sustainability efforts include reducing electricity consumption (12.7% from 2009-2010) and water consumption (24.4%), extensive recycling (office paper, newspaper, glass, metal cans, plastic, construction waste, cardboard, bulbs, batteries, electronics, pallets), and food waste composting using a decomposition machine. The hotel also prioritizes locally grown produce, uses a water filtration system to reduce bottled water use, and has implemented an electronic folio policy to reduce paper. Future plans include a guestroom energy management system and green roof elements. The hotel is part of the McCormick Place campus, which has achieved Gold Level Certification to EIC's Sustainable Event Standards, with initiatives like the largest farm-to-fork rooftop garden in the Midwest, onsite food rescue, offsetting 100% electricity usage with certified wind renewable energy certificates, and a pilot program for AI-guided waste sorting.

Subvention & Funding Support
The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is owned by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), a political subdivision and unit of local government. MPEA's mission is to attract trade shows, conventions, meetings, expositions, and public events to Chicago to strengthen the regional and state economy. This ownership structure implies indirect government support for events held at the venue and the broader McCormick Place campus. MPEA also invests in renovations, such as the $59.5 million contract for guest room renovations.
