About this Venue

Harpa Concert Hall & Conference Centre is a prominent cultural and architectural landmark located on the waterfront in Reykjavík, Iceland. Designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, its distinctive glass facade, inspired by Iceland's basalt landscape, reflects the surrounding city, sea, and sky. Sustainability

Harpa is a CO2-neutral building, utilizing Iceland's renewable hydroelectric and geothermal energy resources. Its glass facade is designed to reduce lighting costs and leverage natural light. The venue sources pure drinking water from natural springs and implements comprehensive waste sorting, aiming for 75% recyclable waste. Harpa has significantly reduced disposable battery use and introduced sustainability requirements for suppliers. Energy-saving initiatives include optimized ventilation systems and a major shift to LED lighting. The center also offers carbon offsetting options for events and business travel, encourages eco-friendly commuting among staff, and uses Nordic Swan ecolabel certified cleaning agents.

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre is owned by the Icelandic state (54%) and the City of Reykjavík (46%). The Icelandic government and the Reykjavik municipality funded the completion of the construction after the 2008 financial crisis. The goal of its operation is to promote Icelandic musical and cultural life, strengthen Iceland's position in conferences and tourism, and foster a vibrant city center.
