International Association of Byzantine Studies (AIEB), Österreichische Byzantinische Gesellschaft (ÖBG)

The International Association of Byzantine Studies (AIEB) is an international coordinating body established in 1948, linking national Byzantine Studies member groups worldwide. It organizes major international congresses and promotes scholarly exchange in the field of Byzantine history and culture. Its Austrian national committee, the Österreichische Byzantinische Gesellschaft (ÖBG), founded in 1946, actively promotes Byzantine studies in Austria through academic lectures, conferences, and excursions, and will organize the 25th International Congress of Byzantine Studies in Vienna in 2026.
