Sustainability
Parc Chanot is undergoing a significant transformation towards sustainability. Since September 2025, it has been developing greener and more welcoming outdoor spaces, including a secure cycle path. The garden of the Palais des Arts saw 2,000 m² of surface de-impermeabilized and 500 m² of green spaces created. A new phase of work from January 2026 includes transforming 10,000 m² of parking into a vegetated esplanade ('parking capable') with permeable soils for rainwater infiltration and tree-lined avenues. Procedures are also underway for the surrounding area to be recognized as Marseille's first eco-district, based on varied uses, solar panel roofs, and a loop heat pipe from the sewage treatment plant.
