The Mulungushi International Conference Centre has received significant government support, including a US$30 million (later increased to US$60 million) grant from the Chinese government for modernization and construction of a new wing. This funding was provided to facilitate Zambia's hosting of the 2022 African Union Heads of State Summit. The project was described as a gift with no strings attached from the People's Republic of China.
