About this Venue

M+ is Asia's global museum of contemporary visual culture, located in Hong Kong's West Kowloon Cultural District. It is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The landmark M+ building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron in partnership with TFP Farrells and Arup, spans a total floor area of approximately 65,000 square metres. It features thirty-three galleries, a Learning Hub, Moving Image Centre, Research Centre, Roof Garden, and an iconic LED facade for screening moving image works. M+ offers an array of distinctive spaces with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour, suitable for cultural, corporate, or celebratory occasions.

Sustainability

M+ is committed to social, cultural, environmental, and financial sustainability, aiming to be a role model and innovator in sustainable museum practices. Sustainability is embedded into all aspects of its operations, including exhibitions, programmes, collections care, research, and visitor experience. The museum has a Sustainability Vision with seven key intentions and is working towards net-zero emissions. The building design adopted an Integrated Sustainable Building Design (ISBD) approach, resulting in a 19% reduction in energy usage compared to Hong Kong Building Energy Efficiency Codes. Sustainable features include LED lighting, district cooling, solar thermal/PV, and the use of eco-friendly materials like bamboo. M+ is also a member of the Gallery Climate Coalition.
